Click image to enlargeThis study will test the safety and immune response of a new HIV vaccine being developed by the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative. This study is being conducted at two research sites in the US and one international site and we are seeking healthy volunteers to participate at our site here at GW.
After a screening visit to confirm eligibility, the study involves 19 visits to the study clinic. Participants will receive vaccine or placebo at three study visits, the second injection two months after the first injection, and the third injection four months after the second injection. The study also involves two procedures: leukapheresis and Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA). Leukapheresis is like a blood donation, where participants are hooked up to a machine and some white blood cells are filtered from your blood, while returning the rest to your circulation. FNA is a procedure where a needle, guided by ultrasound, is inserted into your lymph nodes, usually in your armpit, and lymph node cells and some fluid will be collected into the needle. The leukapheresis procedure is conducted three times during the study and the FNA procedure is conducted twice. There are also follow-up visits (with blood draws and brief physical exams) and follow-up phone calls. Study participation is for about 19 months including the screening period, vaccinations, and follow-up.
Qualified Participants Must:
• 18-50 yrs old, in good health, living in the Washington DC metro area for the duration of the study

Negative for HIV
•
At low risk of contracting HIV
Qualified Participants May Receive:
Participants are compensated at each study visit and will receive up to $1005 for time and travel.
