Summary:

Don't let diabetes lead to heart problems.  Do you, or someone you know, have:

  • Type 2 diabetes?
  • Elevated triglycerides (a type of fat in the blood)?

If so, you may qulaify for this clinical research study evaluating a new investigational medication to see if it can help prevent heart attacks and other heart-related problems in people with Type 2 diabetes.  The study will also test whether the study drug has other possible benefits in patients with diabetes, and will also test the safety of the study drug.  To answer these questions, it is miportant for patients to be in the study until the end, even if they stop taking the study drug earlier.

The study will last about 5 years and will include approximately:

  • 22 office visits, and
  • 16 telephone visits


Qualified Participants Must:

• Be 50 years of age if male
• Be 55 years of age if female
• OR be at least age 18 years AND have 1 of the following:

  • Prior heart attack
  • Coronary lesion
  • Carotid disease (either asymptomatic or symptomatic)
  • Peripheral artery disease (PAD)
  • Prior revascularization procedure, peripheral angioplasty/stenting, bypass, or atherectomy/endarterectomy.


Qualified Participants May Receive:

All study drugs, examinations, and medical care related to the study will be provided at no cost to the patient.  Patients may be reimbursed for parking, meals, transportation costs, etc.  The study doctor and staff can give you the details about how to get reimbursed.
